Meeting for Christian Unity Week 2012

First of all, a big thank–you for all your hard work to make Wednesday′s public meeting such a success. Approximately 125 people came to the Salvation Army Citadel for the act of worship and Nick King′s talk on “The Biblical Roots of Christian Unity” which, from the feedback I′ve received, went down extremely well. Nick was certainly very impressed with our turn–out and welcome. The denominational spread was excellent, and we had people attend who′ve never been to a Churches Together event before. Thanks be to God!

Request for Wider representation on the Enabling Group

Churches Together in York Request for wider representation on our Enabling Group. As the new Vice–Chair of Churches Together in York, I′d like to make an appeal for volunteers on behalf of the Enabling Group. We have strong representation from the Anglican and Roman Catholic traditions, which is great, but we would really value the input of more members from other Churches. In particular, we′d like representatives from the Free Churches (Methodists, Baptists, Evangelicals, etc.) and newer congregations, so that we can better reflect the rich diversity of Christ′s body in York. Churches might like to nominate representatives, or individuals can come forward, to be co–opted onto the Enabling Group which meets approximately six times a year. For further information or to volunteer, please contact me or any member of the Enabling Group. Thank you! Yours in Christ, Johan.

If you have any financial restrictions that may affect your availability to be involved, then please don′t hesitate to contact the YCYH Office for some financial support. We have produced an excellent DVD that outlines our work, which you may want to see. Alternatively this and other videos can be seen on Facebook www.facebook/ycyh. TASKFORCE For those who are too old to be a camper (i.e. School Years 12 & 13 or equivalent), there is still time to be part of a Taskforce team serving and supporting leaders during Whithaugh 2012, at a cost of only £145.00 (Cost includes a Taskforce T–Shirt). Options are either on Taskforce 1 (Saturday 21st July – Saturday 28th July), or Taskforce 2 (Saturday 28th July – Saturday 4th August). So far we have 10 confirmed on Taskforce 1 and 8 on Taskforce 2. Although we are aware that some young people are completing their forms, we still need to recruit people on both weeks. We know that for some young people they have Saturday work commitments, which restricts the amount of Saturdays they can take off. However, there are still options for coming up late on Saturday night/Sunday to return back home on the Friday. Taskforce application forms are available from the YCYH Office. We conduct informal interviews to ensure that those who apply are suitable for the role. If there is anything you would like further clarification on, please don′t hesitate to contact the office, or Fiona Raffell on fiona@yoyotrust.org.uk (Taskforce 1), or Tom Candlin (Taskforce 2) on tomcandlin@gmail.com. If so, and you have a passion for children and young people then we would love to hear from you asap! If you haven′t been before, don′t worry as you will receive all the training to equip you. YCYH has a full child protection policy, and all leaders will be subject to an Enhanced CRB check with references undertaken. So far 78 leaders have signed up to be involved in Whithaugh 2012. Although our leadership teams are coming together, we still need to recruit the following people to achieve the right balance and mix of leaders on each of the camps: WEEK 1 XCiTE 1 – Male (x 5) & female (x 1) lodge leaders. XPLoRE 1 – Male (x 2) & female (x 1) lodge leaders. WEEK 2 XCiTE 2 – Caterer (x 1). Male (x 3) & female (x 3) lodge leaders. XPLoRE 2 – Caterers (x 1/2). Male (x 4) & female (x 2) lodge leaders. Small York-based Grant-Making Trust Seeks New Trustee

The Paristamen Foundation is a York–based charitable trust giving around £5000 p.a. in small grants mainly to local charities across the Yorkshire region. We span most areas of charitable activity including a number of grants specifically for Christian projects. We are seeking a new trustee to help us in our grant–making decisions. The commitment is just two trustees meetings per year and it is a great opportunity to make worthwhile decisions on supporting other charities. It could also be a great opportunity for someone who is normally a fundraiser to learn what it′s like from the other side as a grant–maker. Deadline for expressions of interest: 8 June 2012. For details view the poster below or use the contact details and website. Poster: http://email.opendoorsmailer.com/t/y–l–jltudll–eeblkhk–f/

York Mystery Plays Tickets on Sale

The York Mystery Plays make a return to the Museum Gardens in a spectacular outdoor production by Riding Lights Theatre Company, York Theatre Royal, and York Museums Trust from 2 to 27 August 2012. A purpose built theatre with covered seating will transform York Museum Gardens, allowing an audience of 1400 people to enjoy this epic event under the summer skies, with the beautiful St. Mary′s Abbey ruins as the backdrop to this story. The Mystery Plays have not been produced on this scale in the Museum Gardens since 1988. Adapted by Mike Kenny, who also adapted The Railway Children for York Theatre Royal′s Olivier award–winning production, this will be a new interpretation of the medieval plays that have been embedded in the City′s cultural heritage since the middle of the fourteenth century. From Creation to the Last Judgement, these plays form one of the greatest stories ever told. Ticket prices range from £12 to £42 and can be bought by calling the Box Office or visiting the website; details below. There is also a dedicated website for the York Mystery Plays (also below) which has more information about the plays and allows people to register interest in getting involved.
